From 11 June – 24 September, guide Helmuth Grünberger conducts three hikes a week to some of the most fascinating destinations in Val Gardena/Gröden and surrounding valleys in the Dolomites. Ranging from altitudes of between 460 m – 2,280 m, the hiking programme in the Laion/Lajen holiday region includes both leisurely and more demanding routes. We pass the birthplace of Walther von der Vogelweide and continue to Trostburg Castle. With its magnificent Hall of the Knights, Trostburg is considered one of the most awe-inspiring fortresses in South Tyrol. Another relatively simple hike leads over the old postal road connecting Laion with Ortisei/St. Ulrich. In previous eras, mail used to be carried from Chiusa/Klausen to Val Gardena along the old Troi da la Posta, to use its original Ladin name. On Thursdays, more seasoned mountaineering enthusiasts take part in more challenging hikes led by Helmuth Grünberger. The more difficult routes include the hike over the Forcella Mont dal'Ega/Wasserscharte Ridge to the village of Funes/Villnöss and through the Puez-Odle/Puez-Geisler Nature Park passing over the summit of the Puez. One of the most breath-taking of these hikes leads up to the rocky Forcella Sassolungo/Langkofelscharte Ridge and circles the summit of the Sassolungo. The views of the Gruppo di Sella/Sellastock Massif and Marmolada Mountain are simply stunning!
