Welcome to the Official Internet Website of the Tourism Agency of Villanders/Villandro!

A Picturesque Village and a Doorway to the High-Altitude Meadows
The Dorfgasse of the village of Villanders/Villandro is well known as the address of the restaurant "Zum Steinbock" (which dates back to the 12th Century.) In fact, it served as the background for the painting "The Final Stand" by Franz von Defregger.
In real life, the village of Villanders/Villandro is much less martial. The peaceful location, nestled amid the eastern slopes of the Sarentine Alps, extends from the bed of the Eisack River up to the heights of the vast Villanders/Villandro Alpine Meadow, one of the largest and most-beautiful meadows of the Alps.

A Hiker's Paradise in the Summer and the Winter
On the shores of the Eisack River, at an altitude of 481 meters above sea-level, begins the hiking region of Villanders/Villandro, which continues up to the Villanders/Villandro Mountain (2,509 meters above sea-level.) The Villanders/Villandro Alpine Meadow is a paradise for hikers: Visitors to these meadows nestled in the Sarentine Alps are rewarded with an unparalleled view of the surroundings. There are hiking trails of all levels of difficulty, cozy Alpine huts where you can stop for refreshments, and panoramic views extending from the glaciers of the main ridge of the Alps all the way to the Dolomites. All in all, this hiking area surrounding Villanders/Villandro offers endless variety. The South Tyrolean bicycle path along the Eisack River, the mountainbike trails all around the Villanders/Villandro Alpine Meadow, the Keschtnweg, easy mid-altitude strolls through quiet hamlets, the meadow paths on Europe's second-largest high-altitude meadow. This region offers an unbounded wealth of fascinating destinations!

Rich in History: Traces of Former Inhabitants
Excavations carried out right in the center of the village have uncovered evidence of a human presence dating back to the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, Roman Times, the Middle Ages, the late-Middle Age Pfunderer Mines, and the old country manors and castles. They all provide eloquent testimony of the fascinating past of this region, and give evidence of the attraction which sunny Villanders/Villandro has always held.
With the wide range of vacation activities available here, it's the perfect gateway for a multi-facetted Alpine holiday.
