Walther von der Vogelweide Circuit

Laion sports field is the point of departure for the Walther von der Vogelweide Circuit. Following the signpost, the Vogelweide circuit follows trail n. 35 on a slightly uphill gradient towards Novale/Ried as far as the Vogelweide farmstead, alleged birthplace and home of Walther von der Vogelweide. From there, it continues for approximately 300 m downhill before bending to the right and passing through the locality of Novale. Past Santa Caterina Church and continuing along the mule trail, it follows the Vogelweide circuit signpost towards Albions. Just before the church turn right and follow Trail n. 5, all the way back to the point of departure. The route passing the small localities of Laion, Novale and Albions has a number of resting points along the way. Innervogelweiderhof farmstead (the most likely birthplace and home of the famous 12th Century artist and singer) may be visited, but only by prior appointment. In fact, it isn’t hard to imagine the famous medieval poet wandering contemplatively about these suggestive surroundings. The signposted trail on the Vogelweide circuit leads to Albions. Since it isn’t hard to imagine the famous medieval poet wandering contemplatively about these suggestive surroundings, it seems fitting to name a hiking route after him. At various intervals, panels illustrating the life and works of Walther von der Vogelweide are soon to be erected. Apart from hiking through a stunningly beautiful landscape, the circuit has also substantial educational value. Total time: 2hr 30’ (7.4 km)
