The high-altitude terraces of Lajen/Laion were settled long ago. The first signs of human habitation (at the Wasserbühl) date back to the Bronze Age. After that, many historically famed persons appear, the most-famous of whom is Walter von der Vogelweide: You are welcome to take a pleasure hike to the Vogelweid Farmstead and view it. You'll also want to visit the numerous churches and residences of historical interest and learn more about the religious culture of the region's people.
