Laion, The Gateway To The Dolomites

The pale winter sun shines onto the sparkling snow-crystals on the white-covered slopes. From underneath, the rugged peaks of the Dolomites reach upwards into the clear blue sky: this is Laion in winter!

Arrival at Lajen
Winter in South Tyrol

Charm, character and natural luxury

The picturesque hamlet of Laion/Lajen lies right in the heart of South Tyrol. Situated at the entrance to the Val Gardena/Grödner Tal Valley, the welcoming country church built on the sun-kissed plain between the vineyards and pastures of the Valle Isarco/Eisacktal Valley is sometimes referred to by the locals as the ‘Cathedral in the Mountains’. With the houses, old farms, stately residences and quaint churches all clustered along the steep slopes, Laion has managed to retain its original enchanting character and preserve its simple traditional authenticity. In the surrounding area, there are meadows in bloom; lush forests and imposing mountains and summits such as the Sassolungo/Langkofel, the Gruppo del Sella/Sellagruppe and the unmistakable Sciliar/Schlern mountains, inviting visitors to explore the wide, open spaces.
